My Specialties:
I have a knack for talking to teens, even those who didn't want therapy in the first place. That's because I'm fun to talk to and I really listen and understand.
I have helped adolescents tackle such problems as attitudes, anxiety, conflict, self cutting, depression, abuse recovery, sexual issues and peer conflict. I presented my expertise on "How to Engage the Difficult Teen" at a New Jersey Counseling Association Conference.
I also specialize in treating bipolar disorder. I have given lectures on the topic, and I was the Professional Advisor for DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance) Succasunna for four years.
I welcome the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning population. Homosexuality is not a problem that must be cured, but there are challenges unique to people with alternate lifestyles. I can help people come out to loved ones, deal with harassment or merely discuss relationships without having to change the pronoun. I have advocated for transgender clients who have chosen to make transitions, and those who have decided to not make full transitions. I have run a support group for Male to Female (MtF) individuals, using psychodramatic action methods.
I have extensive training in expressive therapies such as play therapy and psychodrama. It can be difficult to put certain feelings into words. Writing, art, music and role playing can communicate the unspeakable. I use psychodramatic games in group therapy to encourage spontaneity and team building, and I created a group, SHOUT OUT!!! that focused on these games.
In my own life, creative pursuits have been a huge source of satisfaction. I have written articles and stories for publication and for self-expression, and I've acted in community theater. These activities have made my life rich. Satisfaction can come from solving problems, and it can also come from creating a life that you love.
