As professional guidelines and laws evolve to protect freedom of gender expression, and media present more positive images of gender variance, more people are coming out as transgender, and at increasingly young ages. Unfortunately, not all professionals are aware of the updated guidelines, and some still use methods that which were once mainstream and are now considered to be unethical, harmful or even illegal. This workshop will reveal what a professional new to transgender issues needs to know about understanding what it means to be transgender, cultivating respectful dialogue, and determining readiness for transition.
